Wyman Louis "Wayne" McKissick was born to the late Vernon and Mildred James McKissick on June 2, 1959, in Macon, Ga. He took his rest Monday evening October 13, 2025.
Wayne spent most of his childhood growing up in the Pleasant Hill community joining New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at a young age with his mother. During his time in the Pleasant Hill community, Wayne attended L.H. Willimas Elementary School. He played church league basketball for Community Church of God where he earned the nickname "whiplash".
In 1968 the McKissick family moved to the Bellevue community, where Wayne attended Minnie Butler Elementary School. Where he learned his extraordinary mathematics skills from the late Georgia Thomas. While the cashier is pressing keys for a total, Wayne would be handing out the dollar amount down to the exact change. While growing up in the Bellevue community, Wayne became fast friends with the King, Freeman, Battle, Jones, Wiggins, Fordham, Clark-Parker, and Green families. A bond that has lasted for decades.
After graduating from Central High School in 1977, Wayne made history as one of the first three Black men accepted into I.B.E.W Local Union 1316 in 1977. Through determination and hard work, he completed the Apprentice Program and became a Journeyman Electrician in 1983- one of the first Black journeyman in the local union of Macon, GA.
September 13, 1986, Wayne joined in holy matrimony with Joan Moore and to this union two children were born: Jazmine and Ja' Mekia. Wayne moved his church membership to Greater Bellevue Baptist Church with his family in the late 80's later transitioning back to New Hope Missionary Baptist when his son Jazmine became percussionist for the church.
Wayne continued to serve his community and trade for 45 years, earning respect for professionalism, skills, and leadership. In his spare time, he found peace in fishing and tailgating with his family and friends. If you were fortunate enough to receive a Christmas present from Wayne; you would have learned of his legendary gift wrapping skilled mastered from his employment with Service Merchandise.
Wayne leaves to cherish his memory his son SSG Jazmine McKissick: daughter Ja' Mekia (Antwan) Johnson; grandson Fred Louis McKissick; sibling; Cherryl (Ronnie) Taylor; Vernon McKissick, Charles (Stephanie) McKissick, Sr., Karl (Lela) McKissick, Sr., and Beverly McKissick; uncles:
Richard (Barbara) James, Marvin (Gwendolyn) James: aunts: Mary James and Roslin James. Also left to mourn his passing is his good friend Linda Bullard and a host of nieces, nephews, and family including the late Charles E. McKissick, Jr. and trusty side kick "Cujo".
