THE LIFE OF WILLIE
Willie C. Nelson was born on January 7, 1949, in Powersville, Georgia, to the late Willie Judge Nelson and Eldora Crawford Nelson. On June 6, 2025, he quietly answered the call of his Lord and entered eternal rest.
Willie began his educational journey in Fort Valley, Georgia, attending H. Hunt Elementary and High School. On May 3, 1975, he was united in holy matrimony to Lillie Maric Williams. Their union was a true partnership in life and ministry: Willie worked faithfully alongside his wife, supporting her in her ministry endeavors. He played a vital role in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, often transporting children to and from services. Together, they led a ministry called Love in Iction, through which they visited the sick, provided clothing and furniture, and fed the homeless. Willi was a steadfast encourager to his wife and a powerful support in her walk with Christ.
They shared 5o years of loving marriage, and his devotion to both his faith and family was unwavering.
Willie leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Lillie Nelson of Macon, Georgia; his daughters Charlinda Cannady of Decatur, Georgia, Sabrina Dana Gatewood-Nelson of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Maggie Brown of Macon, Georgia; his goddaughters, Nancy and Elizabeth Singleton of Byron, Georgia: and his grandchildren, Christian Cannady of Detroit, Michigan; Brittany and Brianna Reeves, and Zamir Gatewood, all of Warner Robins,Georgia, as well as Nelson, Kayla, and Jayla Brown. He is also survive by his god-grandchildren, Eli and Aaron, and one great grandchild, Archer Cannady of Decatur; Georgia.
Willie is fondly remembered by his brothers Grover Lee Doris Nelson of Powersville, Georgia, and Troy Betty Nelson of Decatur: Georgia. He also Ieaves behind a host of brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly. Ella Mac.
