Walter “Sonny” Hill Sr., born July 10, 1941, in Macon, Georgia, entered eternal rest on March 27, 2026. The youngest of six children born to the late George Baker Hill Sr. and Mary Emma Ross Hill, Walter lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. A graduate of the Macon public school system, he developed a lifelong love for sports, playing baseball at Ballard Hudson High School and later coaching Little League Baseball at Bloomfield Park, where he achieved over 150 wins.
A devoted member of Bloomfield Missionary Baptist Church, Walter was united in marriage to the late Dollie Mae Jackson, and their 43‑year union was blessed with five children. He retired from Armstrong World Industry after 35 years of dedicated service. Walter enjoyed spending time with his family and watching sports, especially cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dollie Mae Jackson Hill, and his son, Walter “Chuck” Hill Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Cheryl Cummings (Robert), Darryl Hill, Anthony “Tony” Hill (Patricia), and Sean Hill (Brandy); along with his grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, his sister Corine Thorpe, special friend Gloria Harden, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
