Tonya Whitby was more than just a mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother - she was the life in the room, the calm in the storm, and the love that held so many hearts together. On August 6th, 2025 she left this world, but not without leaving a piece of herself in every soul she touched.
Born on January 16, 1967, Tonya came into this world with a fire in her spirit and a kindness in her heart. She was strong-willed, funny, and full of life - the kind of woman who could make you laugh even on your worst day. She loved her music loud, her laughs deep, and her days spent fishing with the sun on her back and peace in her spirit.
Tonya didn't just live - she lived fully. Any chance she had to enjoy life, she took it. She knew how to have a good time, and more importantly, she made sure the people around her did too. She was a protector, a provider, a shoulder to cry on. and someone who would always tell it like it is - but with love.
She was deeply loved by her Mother (Frances Moore), Sister (Melvina Bryant) Grandchildren (Cobreyona Whitby & Jerry Williams IIf) who adored their "BIG MA" and by her son (JonTaveon Whitby) her pride, her joy, and her heart walking outside her body. She leaves behind a host of other loving family and friends. Through every sacrifice and every moment of love, Tonya gave her all to her family.
Losing her feels like losing the sun. But her warmth remains in every memory. every laugh, every song that reminds us of her. Her legacy is strength. Her legacy is love. Her legacy is us.
Rest easy now. You did your job. You loved us hard. You lived with joy. We carry you with us always.
*So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10
