Son of Mr. Sylvester Foster, Sr. and Mrs. Ida Bell Foster, began his earthly journey on June 7, 1945, in Morris, Georgia. He was their beloved only son, affectionately known as "The Baby."
Sylvester received his early and secondary education at Kaigler Training School in Georgetown, Georgia, graduating in 1963. Following graduation, Sylvester entered the United States Army, where he completed basic training. He proudly served his country overseas in Germany and other nations, receiving numerous awards and commendations. After his honorable discharge, he settled in Macon, Georgia, in 1966.
At an early age, he joined Morris First Baptist Church in Morris, Ga., where he served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and delegated speaker. His love for ministry and service to God began during his youth and remained throughout his life.
After moving to Macon, Sylvester transferred his membership to Center Hill Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as an Usher for many years.
He first worked at The Medical Center of Central Georgia before beginning a long career with Norfolk Southern Railroad. Starting as a switchman, his dedication and hard work led to his promotion as an engineer. He faithfully rode the rails for many years until his medical retirement.
In 1972, Sylvester married his childhood friend, Rosie Mae Thomas, and together they made Macon their permanent home. Known to family and friends as "Sonny," he enjoyed photography and attending yard sales in his spare time.
Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester Sr. and Ida Bell Foster, and three grandsons: Markeith Thomas, Bradley Gastin, and Jalen Sanford.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Rosie Mae Foster of Macon, GA; four daughters, Brenda Thomas, Starlar Sanford, Devony Whitehead, and Jocelyn Foster, all of Macon, GA; one son, Sylvester Foster III of Macon, GA; three grandchildren, Mantrell Thomas, Brandlyn Gastin, and Kambria Foster; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Pouncey of Los Angeles, CA, and Louise Roberts of Miami, FL; one sister-n-law, Lilly Bell Thomas of Eufaula, Al; one brother-n-law, John Thomas of Morris, GA.; one aunt, Emma Bell Lee of Macon, GA.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember him fondly.
