Sarah Virginia McElroy Hill Oglesby, affectionately known as “Bay”, a much-loved and loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend was born to the parents of the late H. and Nancy McElroy on March 9, 1939, in Macon, Georgia. Sarah suddenly departed this physical life and entered eternity on Monday, March 2, 2026.
Sarah was educated in the Bibb County School District graduating from Ballard Hudson High School. After graduating Sarah met, fell in love and married Benjamin Hill, Sr. and together they were blessed with five sons. She worked in several manufacturing companies throughout Macon until retirement. After retirement, she spent time cooking and helping with her grandchildren. She took joy in attending church services on Sunday’s.
Sarah fought a good fight and continued for as long as she could, it is this uncontrollable thing we call death that stole her physical presence from us. Jesus is the one who held Sarah’s faith and she believed that nothing (even death) can separate her/us from His love. Sunsets are a part of God’s creation and demonstrates his divine artistry. However, our time on earth will bring its own sunsets within our lives that we are not in control of.
Sarah was preceded in death by her two sons, Benjamin Hill, Jr. and Bobby Ray Hill; her brothers, Bobby, Joe, Charles, Jimmie, Water and Lovett McElroy and her two sisters, Ida Cochrane, and Katie Jackson.
Sarah leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Benderious Hill of Macon, Georgia; four sons, Michael A. Hill, Sr. and Calvin Hill of Macon, Georgia, Billy R. Hill, Sr. of La Vergne, Tennessee and Joe W. Hill, Sr. of Los Angeles, California; her two sisters, Essie Jackson and Alice Lucas both of Macon Georgia. Sarah will continue to live in the memories of her amazing daughter-in-law, Janice Hill and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.
