Ruthell Smith was born on April 24, 1942, in Upson County, Georgia, to the parentage of Velma Simmons. She lived a life rooted in love, dedication, and quiet strength, touching the hearts of all who knew her. On December 13, 2025, Ruthell peacefully gained her Heavenly wings, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and unconditional love. She was deeply loved and admired by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her gentle spirit.
Ruthell was united in holy matrimony to Johnny Lee Smith, Jr. on November 8, 1963. From this loving union, one son was born, Johnny Lee Smith III, whom she cherished dearly and devoted her life to nurturing. She was a devoted mother, always placing her family first and offering unwavering support, encouragement, and care.
A hardworking and dependable woman, Ruthell retired from Piggly Wiggly after many years of faithful service. She was admired for her strong work ethic, kind heart, and humble nature. Above all, Ruthell was a devoted member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, where she remained faithful in worship, service, and fellowship. Her love for God and her church family was evident in the way she lived her life—with grace, compassion, and sincerity.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her beloved and devoted son, Johnny (Myldred) Smith; three grandchildren, Alissa, Alexis and Avery Smith; one great grandson, Ashton Granville; devoted in-laws, Tim (Denise) Holt, Linda Harris; a cousin, Rose Whitfield; her special friend, Linda and her daughter and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ruthell will be deeply missed, forever loved and always remembered.
