Ruby Watson Obituary

With heavy hearts, the Watson family announces the home-going of our beloved Sister Ruby Watson, Deaconess Emeritus of Union Baptist Church. While we mourn her passing, we rejoice in knowing that God has called His faithful servant home to eternal rest, where she now rests peacefully in the presence of the Lord. Sister Watson was deeply loved by her family, church family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warm spirit, gentle heart, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on countless lives throughout the Middle Georgia community.

Born on July 17, 1931, in Bibb County, Georgia, to the late Louise and Charlie Lawrence, Mrs. Watson was the devoted widow of the late Deacon James Larry Watson. She was a proud graduate of the Bibb County public school system and later attended Fort Valley State University. Dedicated to the field of education, Mrs. Watson returned to Bibb County to serve as a teacher for more than twenty years, touching the lives of many students with her wisdom, patience, and compassion. Her commitment to excellence in education reflected her nurturing spirit and her desire to uplift and inspire future generations.

Mrs. Watson’s life was firmly rooted in her faith and service to God. A faithful and active member of Union Baptist Church, she served diligently as Deaconess Emeritus and remained deeply involved in church ministry throughout her life. Blessed with extraordinary musical talent, she served as a pianist for 22 churches across the Middle Georgia area and was a gifted vocalist whose soul-stirring renditions of “Can’t Nobody Do Me Like Jesus” and the hymn “I Need Thee” brought joy, comfort, and inspiration to many. Sister Watson will forever be remembered for her love of God, her dedication to the church, her faithful service to others, and the kindness and grace she extended to everyone she encountered.

She leaves behind a beautiful legacy and precious memories to be cherished by her daughter, Myderia Veronica Watson; her grandson, Aarion Q. Harris; and her great-grandchild, Chandler I. Hicks. She was preceded in death by her grandson, DeShunta Q. Hicks. She is also fondly remembered by her God sister, Jacqueline Harris, as well as special God children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends.
