Rose Smith Obituary

Rose Marie Smith, affectionately known as "BayBay," made her peaceful transition home on January 2, 2025, at Eastview Nursing Home in Macon, Georgia. Born on December 24, 1945, to the late Georgia Mae Grier and James Durham, Rose brought warmth and joy to everyone who knew her.

Rose attended the Bibb County Public School system, where she developed a strong work ethic that would define her life. She spent many years working at Fincher’s Barbecue, where her commitment to excellence and her friendly demeanor left an impression on colleagues and customers alike.  Rose walked everywhere and never wanted a ride from anyone.

A devoted member of St. Luke Baptist Church, Rose’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her love for God was evident in her involvement with the church until her health prevented her from attending. Even then, her faith remained unwavering, inspiring those around her to trust in God's plan.

Rose was deeply cherished by her family and friends. She was a loving and supportive mother to her children and a proud grandmother to her many grandchildren. Her family always came first, and her dedication to them knew no bounds. Whether it was offering guidance, providing a listening ear, or simply sharing her vibrant presence, Rose was a pillar of strength and love.

Rose was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred Smith, Sr., and her son, Freddie Smith and two brothers-in-law.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted children, Glenn (Kendra) Smith, Alfred Smith, Derek (Cassandra) Smith, Timothy (Theresa) Smith, and Fred Smith, Jr.; her siblings: Jacquelyn Jones, Marcia Waller, and Joe Waller; her sister-in-law, Addie Smith; her brother-in-law, including Grady Smith; twelve grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and countless friends.

Rose’s life was a testament to love, faith, and resilience, and she will be greatly missed.
