Robert Edward King, born on December 9, 1932, in Waynesboro, Georgia, was the cherished son to the late Frank and Rosa King. From an early age, Robert exhibited a strong sense of faith and community, becoming a devoted member of Thomas Grover Baptist Church. He received formal education in the Burke County Public School System, graduating from Waynesboro High School. Known for his dedication and passion for learning, Robert furthered his education at Savannah State University where he received a degree in Education. While at Savannah State University, he felt it was his duty to serve his country and enlisted into the United States Army. While in the army, he served as an officer in the Korean War. His dedication did not go unnoticed as he was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Merit Unit Citation, and Good Conduct Medal. After returning home, he began his career as an educator in Sparta, GA.
While in Sparta, he met his life long companion of 60 years, the late great Dusker S. King. Together, they built a home in Milledgeville, GA, where they raised their two beloved children, Robert L. King and Felicia E. King Bentley. Robert was a dedicated educator working for the Baldwin County Public School System for 35 years, touching the countless lives in and out of the classroom and throughout the community. Robert has touched the lives of his students and colleagues leaving an impact that will last for a lifetime.
In his free time, Robert enjoyed watching sports, playing board games, solitaire, and sudoku puzzles. After retiring, he devoted himself to his grandchildren. He often played games with his grandchildren while also telling them stories of his childhood and life adventures/ experiences, and singing to them. He showered his family with unconditional love.
In addition to his parents, Frank and Rosa King, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dusker S. King and his 14 older siblings. Robert E. King legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. He is survived and cherished by: his loving children, son, Robert (Desiree) King of Milledgeville, GA, daughters, Victoria (Darrell) Williams of Waynesboro, GA and Felicia (DeUndray) Bentley of Macon, GA; his grandchildren, Larry Turner, Elexis King, Janea’ Bentley, Jayla Bentley, JaMya Bentley, Alonzo Sapp, Willie Jenkins Jr, and Ruben Jenkins, his great grandchildren, Jalen Turner, Jayda Turner, Xavier Sapp, Bryce Sapp, Austin Sapp, Kemijha Jenkins, Kennedi Jenkins, Alyssa Jenkins, and Lori Jenkins, his sibling, Albert King, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He will be remembered for his warmth, his unwavering faith, and the countless lives he has touched. While his physical presence will be deeply missed, the memories of his love and kindness will forever be cherished.
