Robert Demorris Girtmon was born on August 14, 1959, to the proud parents, Mazie and Albert Girtmon, Sr. in Bibb County, Georgia. He was a proud graduate of Central High School, where he formed lasting friendships that continued throughout his life. Robert dedicated 45 years of loyal service to S & S Cafeteria as a cook, where his hard work, dependability, and cheerful spirit made him beloved by coworkers and customers alike. Even after retirement, his strong work ethic led him to continue working part-time at Natalie’s Restaurant for 39 years, where he was admired for his commitment and friendly nature.
Robert truly loved spending time with his family and friends. He found joy in simple moments—watching wrestling every Monday night with his best friend, Johnny Miller and playing spades with his sister, Mary, and their close friends. Robert always had a big smile that would brighten anyone’s day. Above all, his mother held a special place in his heart; he made sure she was always cared for and never in need.
In his younger years, Robert showcased his talent and lively personality as a member of a local dance group called Soul Train Express, where he was affectionately known as the “Dancing Bear.” His rhythm, energy, and joyful presence on the dance floor captured the hearts of many. Robert’s love for music, dance, and togetherness brought joy to every gathering.
Robert peacefully transitioned on October 24, 2025. He was preceded in death by his loving companion of 30 years, Charlene Brown; father, Albert Girtmon, Jr. and his nephew, Trenton W. Harris, Jr.. He is survived by his mother, Mazie M. Girtmon; sister, Marylean Girtmon Harris; brothers, Albert L. Girtmon III (Jackie), Hubert Girtmon; step children, Deshawne Battle and Tavores Brown; ten step children all of Macon, Georgia; nephew, Trenton W. Harris, Sr. (Shona) of Atlanta, Georgia, who was at his bedside everyday until his demise and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was deeply loved by all who knew him—his family, friends, and community—and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to share life’s journey with him.
