Richard Coleman King Jr., affectionately known as "Cotton," was born on April 21, 1957, to Richard King and Margaret King. A man defined by hard work and quiet determination, Cotton began working at just nine years old shining shoes at Braswell Barber Shop, where his father was head barber. He attended Minnie Butler Elementary School and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1975.
At the age of twelve, Cotton began a 30-year career with the Boston Leather Company,
marked by loyalty and dedication. He later became a long-haul truck driver, a role that fit his independent spirit, and ultimately continued his work
with Pet Dairy. Cotton remained committed to his responsibilities until he retired. He departed this life on December 11, 2025.
Outside of work, Cotton found joy and peace in the outdoors. He loved fishing, cutting trees, and tinkering with motors and cars, always keeping his hands busy and his mind at ease.
Cotton leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 43 years, Angela King; his son, Richard King Ill; and his beloved granddaughter, Rickya King. He is also survived by his sisters, Carrolle King-Middleton and Kristall Siler (Anthony); his brother, Russell King; his nephews, Taj Middleton (Madeline), and Brinson Dugger; his nieces: Renee Henrich (Joe), Ashley Siler-Barrett, Harlynn Siler, Fehryn Siler, C.J. Dugger, and Tanesha Bryant; his great nieces Maleah Middleton, Alyssa Middleton, Chloe Barrett, and Noelle Barrett.
A deeply cherished member of the King family, Cotton will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love for family, and appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He will be deeply missed.
