Rev. Pastor Lawrence Hightower Obituary

On October 29, 1954, Lee and Lucille Hightower welcomed their 10th child, a son named Lawrence, known to many as “Flat Top on Top”.  Lawrence took his flight home on Monday, February 17, 2025 after an extended illness.  He is at peace now, walking and talking around Heaven all day.

Flat joined the New Bethlehem Baptist Church at an early age.  He was ordained as a Minister under the late Reverend Lester Jackson.  He was installed as the Assistant Pastor under the leadership of Pastor Reco Murphy.  In his younger days, Flat was rambunctious, mischievous and would not back down from a fight or challenge.  He was short in statue but had a big heart.  He decided to join the United States Army to tame him a little.  It did work.

After returning home from the service, he married the love of his life the late Sharon Aaron Hightower.  Within this union three sons were born, Taujuan, Antonio Terrell and Sanchez Hightower.  Proverbs 18:22 states that whoso fineth a wife fineth a good thing and obtain favor of the Lord.

Lawrence had many talents.  He loved working with wood, making cabinets, bookcases, china cabinets.  He would argue with you about the bible.  You had to be on your “A” game if you wanted to talk about the bible with him.  He was also a great pool player on a professional level.  He was just that good. Lawrence worked for Macon Machine Shop for over twenty years then worked for Elliott Machine Shop until his retirement.  Lawrence met a lot of friends on this journey.  He was a people person.  He would keep you laughing.  When he was in church, you would know it by his Amens and preach pastor.  He was not quiet.  He will surely be missed.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Sharon Aaron Hightower and his son, Antonio Terrell Hightower. God loaned him to us for 70 years and we are thankful.

He leaves to cherish his memories two devoted sons, Tajuan and Sanchez Hightower both of Macon, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a grandson he raised as his own, Andrew Hightower along with five sisters, Mary NellBell of Dry Branch, Georgia, Joyce McKnight Young (Dezzie, Jr.) of Prospect Park, New Jersey, Phyllis Clark of Decatur, Georgia, Willene Williams of Macon, Georgia, Debby Lewis (Turner) of Boston, Massachusetts; brothers, Wayne Hightower (Phyllis) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Jack Little (Faye), Robert Little (Andrea LaShaye) of Macon, Georgia; a nephew and niece who were raised as his brother and sister, Oneal Riggins of Dry Branch, Georgia, Angela Curry (Bobby) of Macon, Georgia; his last aunt, Ora D. Curry of Jeffersonville, Georgia, sisters-in-law, Hattie Mae Hightower of Macon, Georgia, Kaye Hightower of Boston, Massachusetts, Hattie Jane Hightower of Macon, Georgia, Vanessa Aaron Fuller ; brothers-in-law, Deacon Joe Ben Aaron (Kimberly) Ken J. Aaron (Angela);  caregiver, Wilniay Walls and a host of other relatives.
