Rev. Moses Herring Obituary

Reverend Moses Lee Herring was born on July 18, 1940, in Desoto, Georgia, to the late Bryant Herring and Ruth Butler Herring. From his earliest days, he embodied strength, determination, and a spirit that would carry him through a remarkable life.

He received his education in the Bibb County School System and graduated from BallardHudson Senior High School in 1961. During his time there, he distinguished himself as a star quarterback, leading his team to an undefeated championship season — a testament to his leadership, discipline, and competitive spirit. He was a member of the Varsity Club and French Club.

Following high school, Moses continued his educational journey at Savannah State College and later answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army. His athletic gifts extended beyond the football field, as he went on to play in the Negro Leagues for the Raleigh Tigers, leaving his mark during a significant era in sports history.

A hardworking and enterprising man, Moses wore many hats throughout his lifetime. Heworked at Ford Motor Company in the late 1960s and he owned and operated a family gas station in the 1970s. He taught Autobody and Fender at Macon Tech and was the Assistant Pastor to Rev. Alvin Hudson at Beulahland Baptist Church in the 1980s. He was well known for his ability to fix cars. Whether it was family, friends, or friends of friends, he never hesitated to lend his skills to help someone get back on the road. After many years of dedicated service, he retired from Warner Robins Air Force Base.

On December 18, 1977, he united in holy matrimony with Florence Code Herring. Their union was one of love, commitment, and partnership. Florence remained faithfully by his side, lovingly ensuring he was well cared for and supported with unwavering devotion.

Moses was a man of strong faith who loved the Lord. He was known for his quick wit, infectious humor, and commanding presence. Strong in body and in spirit, he carried himself with confidence and grit. He was even an avid barefoot water skier, in his youth, testament to his bold and adventurous nature. He was a provider and protector who believed in standing firm and finishing what he started. He had a way of making people laugh, telling stories that lingered long after they were told, and offering wisdom that reflected a life well lived. He remained strong in body and spirit until his last days. Buy

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryant and Ruth Herring; and his siblings, Reverend Wallace Herring, Sr., Bonnie Ruth Lawson, and Elijah Herring.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Florence Herring; his children, William Kenneth Herring, Falan Mosetta Herring, Torrence Jonel Wilson, and Farrah Marie Hillard; his beloved grandchildren, Reagan Hillard and Asher Wilson; his brothers, Reverend James Herring (Jeannie) and Andrew Dinkins; his brother-in-law, Deacon Albert Lawson, Sr.; his sister-in-laws, Lena Herring and Octavia (Michael) Dious; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing that Moses fought a good fight, kept the faith, and now rests in eternal peace. His legacy of strength, laughter, perseverance, and love will continue through the generations to come.

Well done, good and faithful servant.
