As We Remember Phyllis
Phyllis Renée Goodwin, affectionately known as "Phil," was the youngest of four children, born on November 14, 1963, in Macon, Georgia, to the parentage of Lewis Goodwin, Sr. and Rose Marie Goodwin.
Phyllis received her education in the Bibb County Public School System. She attended B.S. Ingram Elementary School and Central High School, and later graduated from Southwest High School.
Phyllis devoted her working years to serving others. Her employment included Goodwill Nursing Home, Cherry Blossom Health Care, Waffle House, and private caretaking. She remained dedicated to her work until her health no longer allowed her to continue.
Phyllis accepted Christ at an early age and carried her faith with her throughout her life. She worshiped at Lizzie Chapel Baptist Church, Mt. Olive Baptist Church and later found a church home at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church. Phyllis remained a faithful member, attending as long as her health allowed and holding her faith close to her heart.
Phyllis found joy in spending time with her family and cherished family gatherings, playing cards, watching television-especially Tyler Perry's Sistas-and playing games on her phone.
On December 25, 2020, Phyllis's life entered a season that would forever shape her story. After being placed on a ventilator on December 29, 2020, Phyllis fought courageously. On February 7, 2021, she took her first breath on her own, showing her strength, faith, and determination. After years of walking this journey with grace, on February 2, 2026, at 9:16 a.m, Phyllis softly took her final breath at Regency Rehabilitation Center and was gently called into eternal rest.
Phyllis lived a life anchored in faith, and her journey is beautifully reflected in 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (TLB):
"I have fought long and hard for my Lord, and through it all I have kept true to Him. And now the time has come for me to stop fighting and rest.
In heaven a crown is waiting for me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that great day of His return."
Phyllis will be remembered for her kind heart and infectious smile. She touched the lives of many through her compassion and generosity, and she had a true passion for helping others. Phyllis always went above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Phyllis was proceeded in death by her mother, Rose Marie Goodwin; her father, Lewis Goodwin Sr.; her nephew, Lewis Jorrell Goodwin; and her great nephew, Niko Wilson.
Cherishing the legacy of Phyllis through her earthly seasons are her beloved children, LaAnthony and DeAnte (Kristina) Goodwin of Macon, GA; bonus son, Reginald Thomas (Destine); her treasured grandchildren, De'Yammiah, DeAnte Jr., Kaydence and Kimora Goodwin; Camren Hallman, Zy'Kiria Ivey, TyRhiana Slaughter, all of Macon, GA; and her precious great-grandehild, Ka'Niyah McGruder of Macon, GA.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her loving siblings: Gwendolyn Simonton (Dana) of Macon, GA, Yolanda Goodwin-Humphrey (Fred) of Harrisburg, PA, Lewis Goodwin, Jr. (Judy) of Macon, GA; bonus sister, Angela Wright.
