David Wayne Fields was born on October 19, 1964 in Walter-boro, S.C., to the late Lee Burgess Fields, Sr. and Helen Louise Fair Fields of Ritter, South Carolina. He joined Cumberland United Methodist Church in Ritter at a very early age. He was educated in the Colleton County public school system and graduated from Walterboro High School.
In 1993 he moved to Macon GA to become the Minister of Music of Saint Paul AME Church under the auspices of Reverend Terence R. Gray. As the church began to embrace praise and worship as well as Rev. Gray's dynamic preaching, it began to grow by leaps and bounds. In 1995, he married his wife Windy George Fields ,they worked as a team in ministry. She became one of the choir directors of the church. Two children were added to their union Jacouri and Kyrilen.
He was a dedicated husband, father, uncle, godfather, friend, mentor. and minister of music. In his leisure, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, grilling, cooking, eating out working in his yard and cutting grass with his riding lawn mower. He loved watching reruns of Star Trek and CSI. Jurassic Park and any action movies. He liked going on vacation although he did not relax enough not to be governed by time. Even when he was on vacation he would remind Windy that it was time to do something to which she replied, "We are on vacation" this helped for just a little while before he was again reminding her of the time and wanting to know what she wanted to do next.
He had a very kind heart and was always giving his time, talent abilities and funds wherever he saw a need He believed in
"Giving until it hurt". His mission in life was assist in church growth through praise and worship. He was always giving someone a word that would challenge them and cause spiritual growth in their lives. He enjoyed seeing the power of God on display before moving to Macon, GA.
He was employed by Frankie's Fun Park, Fuddruckers and the Hyatt Regency, The Medical Center and he also became employed with several community service agencies New Hope For Children, Summerville S.C, The Methodist Home for Children and Youth and Wesley Glen Ministries from which his health caused to retire.
He entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Atrium Health (The Medical Center) in Macon, Georgia. Preceding him in death are his parents Lee Burgess Fields Sr,, Helen Lousie Fair Fields and his brother Lee Burgess Fields, Jr..
David spent many years as a church music and playing for programs and groups around the low country. His final assignment in South Carolina was at Greater Saint James (Saints Center Ministries). He answered the call to minister the gospel in 1995 and on July 9,1995 he delivered his first sermon with the text taken from I Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;
David Wayne leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 30 years Windy George Fields; two sons, Jacouri David Fields and Kyrilen Justice Wayne Fields. His brother, Ronald Carlton Fields and sister, Deborah Elaine Brown (Frederick), His special god brothers (David Kinsey (Andrea Walterboro, S.C., Carlton Kitchens, Macon, GA and Cedric Shelly, Macon, GA. His God children, Shanikqua Bostic, Smoaks, S.C., Kasante Shantell White, Jessie Hughes III, Jessica Hughes Williams, Stephanie Amber Nicole Broughton, Charity Broughton and Joshua Broughton, Walterboro S.C., Traynasia Parker (Macon, GA) and Ashlei Brown of Walterboro S.C., A host of other special nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
