The Lord called Mattie Ruth Fleming to her eternal home on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Piedmont Coliseum Hospital in Macon, Georgia.
Mattie Ruth was born on April 2, 1948, in Twiggs County, Georgia, to the late Willie Jake and Mattie Lee James. From an early age, she embraced her faith and became a dedicated member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Twiggs County. Her unwavering commitment to her church and community was evident throughout her life, as she found joy in worship, fellowship, and service to others. She carried her faith with grace and was a pillar of strength and encouragement for her family and friends.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Fleming worked with Twiggs County School Transportation, where she was a valued employee for many years. She took great pride in her work, ensuring that students traveled safely each day. Her kind spirit and dedication to the children and staff left a lasting impact. Even after her retirement, she remained a beloved figure in her community, always offering wisdom, love, and a warm smile.
Above all, Mattie Ruth was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was predeceased by her parents, Willie and Mattie Lee James, as well as her siblings Willie Jr., Henry, and Charles. She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: her three children, Daphane Smith of Macon, Georgia; Amanda (David) Exum of Dry Branch, Georgia; and David J. Robinson of Macon, Georgia. Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren—Jamal, Ikeria, Wynanvia, Tyneshia, Asya, Aliyah, Shamar, Dequavian, and Jenascia—along with numerous cousins, friends, and extended family members who were touched by her kindness and generosity.
Mattie Ruth Fleming will be deeply missed, but her love and faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Her warmth, compassion, and unwavering strength will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of being part of her life. Though she has left this earthly home, we find peace in knowing she is now resting in the arms of the Lord, reunited with loved ones, and surrounded by eternal love and light.
