On Sunday, December 29, 2024, the Lord sent an angel to take Martha Williams home to be with her parents, George Axson and Sallie M. Pitts; her daughter, Mary Stephens; and her siblings, Gene Williams, Clarence Williams, Bessie Williams, and Ruby Jenkins.
Martha Williams made her grand entrance into the world on October 17, 1937, in Twiggs County, Georgia, to George Axson and Sallie M. Pitts. From an early age, she demonstrated a strong faith, joining the Greater New Hope Baptist Church where she became an active member of the congregation. Martha received her education in the Twiggs County school system and went on to work for many years at Butler Board House. Her love for cooking was unmatched, and her kitchen was her sanctuary, where she found joy in preparing meals that brought her family together. Her culinary skills were celebrated far and wide, and she found happiness in the laughter and love that filled her home during shared meals.
Martha had a unique gift of making everyone feel at home. Known affectionately as "Ma" to many, she opened her doors not only to family but to her entire community. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort, and kindness, where everyone was welcome. Martha's quick wit and vibrant personality left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She was a woman who spoke her mind, yet her words were always laced with wisdom and care. Her humor and spirit brought light to even the darkest days, and she had a knack for making everyone feel loved and cherished.
Family was the cornerstone of Martha’s life. She deeply loved her children, John Willie Williams, Georgia Jolley, Ella Williams, Robert Williams, Sallie Williams, and Debbie Williams; sisters, Luella Redd, Jennie Mae Stephens and Lou Anna (Hampson) Washington; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews,, cousins and friends. She was especially proud of the four grandchildren she raised as her own: Tyra Williams, Neketa Williams, Willie (Shaneta) Stephens, and Vantavius Stephens. Her devotion extended to her great-grandchild, Vantavius Stephens Jr., and her loving caregiver, Tiesha Williams, whose dedication brought Martha comfort in her later years.
