On January 14, 2026, Marcus Dewayne Shannon, Sr. heard the voice of the Master’s call and transitioned from his earthly home.
Marcus, better known as “Nookie” affectionately known as ”The Piper”, was born on August 30,1962 to Ray Jean Harris Shannon and the late Willie Bonds. He attended the Bibb County Public School system, becoming a skilled carpenter, electrician, and lead construction manager.
Marcus was a well-known pillar of the Fort Hill community. He would host community events, spreading love, joy, and his well known sense of humor that always erupted in laughter. Who else can tell a story like “The Piper”.
Marcus was preceded in death by his father, Willie Bonds; sister, Vildra B. Shannon; brothers, Willie L. Burnette, Timothy Shannon Sr., Clarence Shannon.
Marcus leaves behind his precious memories to his mother, Ray Jean Harris Shannon; 11 children, Marcus Shannon, Jr., Latoria (Benny) Fleming of Albany, Georgia, Derrick Shannon, Mia Shannon, Jessica Vickers, Patricia Shannon, Jakari Phelps, Zyonn Fields, Renardo Hammonds, Sir’Miken Stafford; 28 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Sherry (Reverend Donald)Miller, Carolyn Shannon and Dena Shannon; 2 brothers, Willie (Reverend Faye) Shannon, William E. Shannon all of Macon, Georgia along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
