I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. -John 11:25-26
Johnny Owens Jr. was born on October 15, 1957, in Macon, Georgia, to his loving parents, the late Johnny B. Owens, Sr. and the late Louise Gant Owens. Affectionately known as "J.O.," he was a man of great warmth, kindness, and generosity.
J.O. was a dedicated scholar and athlete. He graduated from Central High School in Macon, Georgia, where he excelled both academically and athletically. His talents on the basketball court earned him a scholarship to Albany State University, where he continued to pursue his education. After completing his studies, he served his country with pride in the Army Reserve. His career path led him to serve as an employee with the Bibb County Police Department and the City of Macon, where he became a beacon of hope and a mentor to both young people and seniors in the community. Through his service, he demonstrated a steadfast commitment to making the world a better place.
A man of deep and abiding faith, J.O. was a devoted member of Grant Chapel AME Church. In December 2017, he accepted his calling to ministry and preached his initial sermon at Grant Chapel AME Church, a moment of profound significance in his spiritual journey. He was a licensed Evangelist in the A.M.E. Church, Sunday School Superintendent, Member of the Sons of Allen Men of Grant Choir and served on the Steward Board. His unwavering faith in God guided his actions, and he remained committed to his church family even as his health declined.
On Saturday, January 25th, at 11:45 p.m., Johnny Owens Jr. peacefully departed this life to be reunited with GOD his Creator. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James Gary; his sister, Katherine Rozier-Owens; his nephew, Shawn Rozier, his grandmother, Nicey Geiger, and his beloved daughter, Roctavia Edwards.
