Joan Moore Mckissick was born to the parentage of the late Willie Eddie Moore and Gloriousteno Moore on September 4, 1962 in Macon, Georgia. She peacefully took her rest on Thursday evening, March 19, 2026.
Joan spent her childhood growing up with both her mother, Gloriousteno Moore, and her late grandmother, Mattie Lee Moore, in the Vineville and Monroe County, Georgia areas. Joan attended Alexander 3 Elementary School. She graduated from Mary Persons High School in 1981. After high school, she fulfilled her childhood dream of completing the Cosmetology Program at Macon Technical Institute. She later utilized her Cosmetology skills and became an Owner and Operator of La'Talk of the Town Beauty Salon in 1999. She devoted herself to cosmetology, becoming not only a talented professional but also a mentor to other Cosmetologists along the way. She generously shared her knowledge, encouraging others to grow with confidence and skill. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, both in and beyond the salon chair. After many years as a proud business owner and operator of La'Talk of the Town Beauty Salon, Joan found great purpose in her role with the Bibb County Board of Education where she faithfully served as a Bus Driver for 13 years. She had a special love for her kids and they loved and deeply respected her in return. She was more than an employee, she was a listening ear, a comforting presence, and someone they could count on, often just talking to her and sharing pieces of their daily lives.
Joan was a dedicated and hardworking woman who took pride in all she did. Beyond her strong work ethic, she found her greatest joy in spending time with family, exploring new places through travel, and embracing life with a spirit of fun and laughter.
Joan attended Howard Chapel Church at a young age and later transferred to William Chapel AME Church where she joined and became a member. On September 13, 1986, Joan joined in holy matrimony with Wayne McKissick and to that union, two children were born: Jazmine and Ja'Mekia.
Joan leaves to her cherished memories herl oving and devoted children, Jazmine Mckissick and Ja'Mekia Johnson (Antwan); her grandson, Fred; her mother, Gloriousteno Moore; her siblings, Tisa (Bruce), Willie (Dreika), and Timothy; her aunts, Clara, Darnell (Calvin), Jacqueline, Mattie, Leathica, Gladys, Barbara, Cherri; her uncles, David Lee, Joe Dennis, and Curtis; a devoted cousin that was more like a brother, Darrell B. Moore (Tracy) a God daughter Denise Pearson and a loving sister-in-law Beverly Mckissick. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
