Jimmy Orlando Pitts was born on August 14, 1955, to the late Tommie Pitts, Sr. and the late Thula Rooks Pitts. Rooted in a loving family and guided by God’s grace, Jimmy grew up in Georgia surrounded by faith, laughter, and kinship.
He completed his education at Bibb Tech High School. After graduating, Jimmy set out on life’s journey, spending meaningful time in Detroit and New York alongside his cousin. His travels shaped his perspective, but he always found his way back home.
While living in New York, Jimmy worked in a distribution warehouse, helping move and organize goods for his employer, Jimmy Shue. He enjoyed his work and took great pride in being a dedicated and reliable worker. One of the greatest blessings of his life came during his time in New York—learning that he was going to be the father of twin daughters. It was the most joyful moment of his New York years, and he proudly announced the news to everyone he knew.
Jimmy lived life with a free spirit—independent, heartfelt, and unapologetically himself. Jimmy was a builder. Blessed with a love for music, he enjoyed singing and often played his guitar. His voice was unique, and his songs—sometimes delivered through early-morning phone calls—became cherished memories for those who knew him. If Jimmy had your number, you could expect a call, a story, and sometimes a melody to brighten your day.
When Jimmy was a resident of Tall Pine Estate Personal Care Home in Roberta, GA, he faithfully attended Jordan Grove Baptist Church and joined the senior choir under the Leadership of the Late Rev. W. C. Graddick.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry L. Pitts and Tommie L. Pitts, Jr.
He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory: the mother of his daughters, Helen M. Bradley; his precious twin daughters, First Lady Monica E. Bradley and Awliyah Saadya Safi; and his four beloved grandchildren, Salahedin Safi, Salim Safi, Salih Safi, and Rajab Safi.
He is also survived by his siblings, Jacquelyn Pitts Bailey, Beverly Pitts Ray, Thula C. Pitts Clark, Pete “Rick” Hill, and Jim Rogers Pitts; his uncle, Oliver Pitts Sr.; along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends.
Though Jimmy has departed from this earthly home, we find peace in knowing he now rests safely in the arms of the Lord. His voice, his spirit, and his love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. We hold fast to God’s promise that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
