Obituary

Mrs. Helen L. Thomas was born November 15, 1931 in Baldwin County to the parentage of the late Mr. William Simmons and the late Mrs. Etta Curry. She joined County Line Baptist Church at an early age, where she was a member of the Sons on Wisdom, Daughter of Light Society. She joined Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church and Harmony Missionary Baptist under watch care but always remained fully devoted and in full membership to County Line Baptist Church.

She was educated in the public school system where she received her honorary GED in 2011 from Central Georgia Technical College adult learning program. Helen thrived in serving her community. Some of her fondest memories were made while involved in the Band of Angels choir and Citizens on Patrol. She received several awards and certificates from this organization. Along with being free hearted and nurturing she wouldn’t hesitate to open her home and provide hot meals to love ones in need. If she wasn’t cooking, she was hand sewing quilts that were in high demand whenever she made them! One of her favorite pastime activities was going to various locations and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports and instruments. Helen showed her love through cooking and she took pride in cooking delicious meals for her family and friends.

This beautiful soul answered the call to eternal rest on Monday, April 3rd, 2023. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Earl Simmon, Eugene Green, James Simmons, Otis Simmons, Arthur Simmons, Leroy Simmons, Bernie Simmons, George Greene, James Curry, David Simmons, Louise Austin, Alice M. Wilson, Mattie B. Hamilton, Willie M. Wright , Jean Simmons, Alma Gooden and Alma Middlebrooks and one grandson, Ahmori Searcy.

Helen was united in matrimony to the late Mr. George Thomas Jr.

Her memory will always be cherished by her children, Gloria Howard, Diane Hiley, Ronald (Wilma) Hill, Peggy (Melvin) Williams, Kathy Thomas, and Craig (Peaches) Thomas; 3 living, Arthur Simmons, Larry Simmons, Mattie Burnett; living-in-laws, Amie Thomas, Frazier Thomas, Celestine Madison and Juanita/ Pablo Garcia; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; a host of loving friends that will miss her dearly.
