Hazel Simmons Obituary

THE OBITUARY Mrs. Hazel Lee Manuel Simmons, affectionately known as Lump was born August 21, 1939 in Jones County to the parentage of the late Mr. John Henry Manuel, Sr. and the late Mrs. Essic D. Goddard Manuel.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Mr. Robert Collins "RC" Kitchens of which a daughter was born prior to his death. Years later, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Nathaniel Simmons, Jr. of which a daughter and a son were born.

In addition, she was preceded in death by the following siblings, Mrs. Essie Mac, Manuel Greene, Mrs. Willie Mac Manuel Finney and Mr. John Henry Manuel, Sr.

Hazel had received her education from the Jones County public schools. During her childhood, she became a member of the Damascus Baptist Church. She is the 4th generation of the Manuel Family of which is a previous ancestor rode a horse to Macon, Georgia in order to obrain a minister for the church around 1867. She has served faithfully in church ministries such as culinary arts with exceptional skills, programs for Christmas and Easter and as an Usher. She has loved to travel, cat at buffet restaurants, sewn various clothing such as blouses, dresses, pants, skirts. She's completed hundreds of alterations for clothing stores which include Men's Wear at Barry's Manufacturing, Kaybee of Macon and Flava-Fashion.

Hazel was a beautiful and friendly person with the greatest smile. Her laughter was incredibly intense. She has been a caring and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother (aka Granny), great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.

To cherish her sweet memories she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Katrina Faye Kitchens (F. Leon) Farrar and Miss Natalie Janelle Simmons; one son, Mr. Jonathan Jared Simmons; one sister, Mrs. Rosie Lee Manuel Billings; one God-sister, Doris Wims (Richard ) Nelson; six granddaughters, Nneka A. Simmons, Jadrus B. Jackson, Jamya B. Jackson, Armonie C. Simmons, Makya Lee Simmons, and Kimora L. Farrar; one grandson, Miguel B. Covington; one great grandson, Aaron J. Cofer, Jr. and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
