Freeman Harold Smith was born August 23, 1954 in Macon, Georgia to the parentage of Willie and Marie Smith. As a child, Freeman attended Spring Street Tabernacle SDA Church, now Bethany Seventh-Day Adventist Church, with his parents.
Freeman Harold Smith attended BS Ingram Elementary School and Ballad Hudson High School and Southwest High School where he graduated. After graduation, he immediately enlisted in the US Army, serving from Sept. 1980 to Sept. 1986. Freeman received several awards while serving in he army. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. He served as a Unit Supply Specialist and Storage Specialist.
After leaving Germany, Freeman came back home being last stationed in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. After leaving the service, He worked as a butcher at Bateman and Wade and the Farmer’s Market, later joining the Atlanta Gas Light Company until becoming disabled.
Freeman departed this life on February 19, 2026. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul who put others first. Even after his stroke, he kept smiling and stayed as independent as he could.
He was predeceased by the parents, his partner for life, Gwendolyn McLin, his son, Reuben Parks, two brothers, Willie Carl Smith and Bernard E. Smith, and one sister, Carolyn Louise Smith Rivers.
Freeman leaves behind to cherish his memory his sisters Sylvia Smith Lucas (Bill), Beverly Smith Davis, and one brother, Marvin D. Smith, his daughter Michelle Nesper, his devoted step-daughter, Latesha Vinson and a loving step-granddaughter, Morgan Vinson as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
Freeman’s life was full of love, service, and resilience. His memory and gentle smile will forever remain in our hearts.
