Evelyn Peck Obituary

Evelyn Hampton Peck, affectionately known as, “Bubba” transitioned to her heavenly home on January 14, 2026, at Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center, Macon, Georgia.

She was born on July 1, 1928 in Kathleen, Georgia to the late Clarence and Annie Simon Hampton. She was the beloved granddaughter of the late Joseph and Pearl Ross Hampton, and the late Edward and Mary Ragin Simon.

Evelyn began her education at Piney Grove Elementary School. After the family moved to Macon, she attended L. H. Williams Elementary School. She attended Hudson High School, graduating with the class of 1947.

She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Houston County, where she sang in the choir. It was there she met and married J.C. Peck and to this union two children were born.

Evelyn later moved to Brooklyn, New York where she lived for 17 years. There, she joined Washington Temple Church of God and served as a missionary, working diligently with the out-reach team to feed the hungry. Under the leadership of Bishop and Mrs. Earnestine Washington, she helped secure additional food from Joy Lunch-an establishment closed on Sundays-to support those in need.

After returning to Macon, she united with ABERLENA Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in the Pastor’s Aide Club and Mission Department until her health began to decline.

Mrs. Peck loved people and found joy in cooking and feeding large groups. Her famous collard greens were unforgettable.  One of her favorite sayings was: “Put God first in your heart and life; that’s when the blessings come down.”

She was preceded in death by her sister, Lula Pearl West; her brother, Clarence Hampton Sr., and grandson, Michael Peck.

She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Leonard (Alice) Peck Sr.; her devoted daughter, Chiquita (LaFayette-devoted) Peck Green; her sister, Otha Cora McClendon, Linda McClendon; brother, Billy Joseph; devoted grandson, Markello Peck; grandson, Leonard Peck, Jr (Fanell) of Lakeland, Florida; granddaughter, Nicole (Murphy) Johnson of Old Bridge, New Jersey; a devoted god son, Milton (Nippie) Jackson. She is also survived by devoted goddaughters, Carolyn (Boni) Whitehead and Elaine Finney; devoted cousins, Ernestine Hudson, and Darlene Hudson; five great grands and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
