Mr. Emory W. Mays was born on October 4, 1943, and peacefully entered eternal rest on June 2, 2025. A loving father, proud grandfather, and devoted family man, he will be remembered for his strong work ethic, stylish flair— especially his love of hats— and the care he showed to all who knew him.
He graduated from Ballard-Hudson High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army for two years. After his service, Mr. Mays found his calling as a skilled carpenter and installer. He was known not only for his craftsmanship but for his sharp sense of style-never seen without one of his signature hats. Mr. Mays joined Bethal AME at a early age.
Mr Mays is now reunited in peace with his loving parent, Annie Ruth and Benjamin Childers and his father Henry Mays Sr., along with his brother Buford C. Mays and brother in law Dennis Holloway.
He is survived by his son, Winton Mays, his daughter Felice Kee grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Mays was one of twelve siblings and deeply valued the bond of family. He is survived by his seven sisters: Shirley (Charlie) Brundage Patricia (Kenneth) Threatt, Treniese Holloway, Lena Billingslea, Lisa Tucker, Louise Penix, and Kentaya Clenn. He also leaves behind four brothers: James (Brenda) Mays, Benny Ray (Cheryl) Childers, Michael Childers, and Henry Mays Jr,, as well as a host of devoted nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Mr. Mays will be remembered for his calm spirit, sense of pride, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
