Ellene Daniely Gibson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, just days after celebrating her 95th birthday. Born on March 21, 1931, in Reynolds, Georgia, Ellene was the cherished daughter of John and Mary Daniely. She received her education through the Taylor County School System. On March 22, 1946, Ellene began a lifelong journey of love and partnership when she married John Gibson. To this union, two children were born: John T. Gibson, Jr. and Annie Lizzie Gibson.
Ellene and John made their home in Macon, Georgia. Together, they built a life rooted in family, kindness, and a spirit of service. Ellene was a woman of immense strength and simple joys. She took great pride in her home, especially in her yard. She could often be found outdoors, meticulously tending to her beautiful flowers and perfectly manicured lawn. Her yard reflected her vibrant spirit, which was well-cared for and full of life. As a dedicated domestic engineer, Ellene took immense pride in the creation of her welcoming home. Ellene dedicated her life to a spirit of stewardship and excellence. Her leadership was felt across every corner of the church, where she served with distinction as President of the Usher Board, Missionary, Deaconess, and a vital leader within the Culinary Ministry and the Bethel Building Club.
Her lifelong devotion to the church was recognized on a grand scale when she was honored as the Queen of the AME 6th District, a title she carried with the same grace and poise she brought to every role. Beyond the sanctuary, Ellene's heart was always with the next generation. As a Den Mother for the Cub Scout Troop 551 and an active mentor for the community's children, she was a steady guide for many young lives. She believed in nurturing the potential of every child she met, planting seeds of faith and character that will continue to grow for years to come Her legacy of kindness and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, because it takes a village to raise a child. Ellene was also blessed with a wonderfu circle of friends. She leaves behind her best friend, Rosette Smith, and friends Gladys Anthony and Shirley Bundridge. Ellene was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Daniely, her husband, John Gibson, two sons, John T Gibson and Erskine Turner, Sr., and granddaughter, Venetia Jackson.
Ellene's legacy of love continues through her daughter, Annie Gibson, foster chilo Richard Avant, who she loved as her own; godson, Andre Jones; Daughter-in-law Shirley Turner; devoted grandson, Dale Kelly, who remained a constant source of joy and support in her later years; other grandchildren: Vametress Willett (Jason, Antonio Gibson (Liz) and Angelo Bonds (Cassandra); Great-grandchildren: Jarvis Jackson, Tamira Schofield, Kyerra Bonds, Angelo Ragan, Valyence Jackson Jashone Jackson; Great-Great Grandchildren: Jakayan, KJ, Addonis, Summer Jamari and Ahmad Ragan; Brother, Paul Daniely; Sister, Flora Hillman; godchildren: Ricky, Anthony, KC, Darrell and Gayle and a host of nieces, nephews.
