Dusker Stevens King, born on January 21, 1933, in Saluda, South Carolina, was the cherished daughter of the late Willie Stevens, Sr., and the late Leora Dozier Stevens. From a young age, she displayed a deep connection to her faith, joining Mount Calvary Baptist Church early in life. Growing up on her family's farm instilled in her a strong work ethic and a love for nature. As a child, she took pride in feeding the animals and helping with the day-to-day tasks of farm life, a foundation that shaped her nurturing and caring personality.
Dusker's pursuit of education began in the public school system of Johnston, SC, where she graduated from Edgefield County Training High School. She then attended Paine College before transferring to Allen University in Columbia, SC, where she earned a degree in Education. Her teaching career began in Sparta, Georgia, where she met her lifelong companion, Robert E. King. Their union, spanning over 60 years, was a testament to love and partnership. Together, they built a home in Milledgeville, GA, where they raised their two beloved children, Robert L. King and Felicia E. King Bentley.
A dedicated educator, Dusker worked for the Baldwin County Public School System for 30 years, touching countless lives within the classroom and community. She was an active member of her community, participating in organizations such as the Laura Austin Savings Club, the Union Baptist Usher Board, and the Retired Teacher and Education Associations of Milledgeville, GA. Her students and colleagues alike were inspired by her kindness, patience, and dedication to nurturing growth in others.
In her free time, Dusker found joy in gardening, cooking, and baking—passions rooted in her childhood on the farm. Her kitchen was a place where love was poured into every dish, especially her cakes, which were beloved by all who had the pleasure of tasting them. After retiring, she devoted herself to her grandchildren. Whether offering words of wisdom, baking sweet treats, or simply spending quality time with them, she showered her family with unconditional love.
In addition to her parents, step-mother, Annie Bell Minick Williams Stevens, she was also preceded in death by her siblings; Ebbie Stevens, Willie Stevens Jr., Olin Stevens, Bennie Lee Williams, Henry L. Williams, Booker T. Williams, Aaron Williams Jr., Eddie F. Williams, Raymond Stevens, Abbie Jennings, Sadie Turner, Anna Stevens, Annie Mae Hickman, Mary B. Allen, Carrie Culbreath, Susie M. Buggs, Ida Williams, and Lanie Mae Stevens Lorick
Dusker’s legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of her loved ones. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert E. King; her son, Robert L. King (Desiree King) of Milledgeville, GA; her daughter, Felicia E. King Bentley (DeUndray Bentley) of Macon, GA; her grandchildren, Larry Turner, Elexis King, Janea’ Bentley, Jayla Bentley, JaMya Bentley; her great grandchildren, Jalen Turner and Jayda Turner, her brothers, Oscar Stevens (Narlene Stevens) of Saluda, SC, Jonathan Stevens (Veronica Stevens) of Columbia, SC, Vannie Williams of Saluda, SC, and Clarence Williams of Washington, DC; her brother-in-law, Albert King of Augusta, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She will be remembered for her warmth, her unwavering faith, and the countless lives she touched. While her physical presence will be deeply missed, the memories of her love and kindness will forever be cherished.
