Dorothy "Dot" Henderson, a beloved advocate and cherished member of The Arc Macon community, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of friends on May 16, 2026. Born in Macon, Georgia on June 30, 1943, Dot lived a life marked by kindness, resilience, independence, and service to others.
Dot was preceded in death by her mother, Katie Sanford; her father, Raymond Henderson; her brother, George Sample; her sister, Jean Henderson; and her devoted friend and supporter, Dr.Tom Glennon.
She leaves to cherish her memory her brother-in-love, Willle Williams of Atlanta Georgia; her nieces, Evette Morgan of Macon, Georgia and Teresa Walker of Washington, D.C.; a host of nieces and nephews; dear friends Suzanne Glennon and Eileen Harris; and her extended family at The Arc Macon, where she was deeply loved and respected.
Dot was educated in the Bibb County School System and became known throughout the community for ner warm spirit, strong voice, and determination. She worked for many years at Goodwill, then meals on wheels, and later explored entrepreneurial opportunities. Though soft spoken by nature, Dot was also a fearless self-advocate who believed in speaking up for herself and others. She was always helpful, kindhearted, engaging, and a strong communicator who touched the lives of everyone she met. Through the advocacy and support of her dear friend, Dr. Tom Glennon, Dot became connected with The Arc Macon and made history as the first resident of the Quinlan Group Home.
Her life became an inspiration to many, reflecting the importance of inclusion, independence, dignity, and community support for people with disabilities. Dot will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her perseverance, her caring heart, and the countless lives she impacted through friendship, advocacy, and love. Her legacy will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
