Donna Kay (Susie) Handler, age 76, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on May 13, 1950, in Biloxi, Mississippi, Susie spent her life rooted in the community and family she cherished so deeply.
Susie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and creating memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her love, strength, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Morris Sr. and Winona Handler; granddaughter, Stephanie Mercer; brothers, Samuel Handler, Donald Handler, and Jimmy Williams; and sister, Shirley Vogle.
She is survived by her brothers, Morris Handler Jr. and Mackey Handler; her nieces, nephews, extended family members; and her children:
Annette (David) Mercer; grandchildren Jessica (Anthony) Lopez, great-grandchildren Madison and Zion; David Mercer II, great-grandchildren David III and Hudson; and Dwayne (Kimberly) Mercer, great-grandchildren Remington and Waylon.
Chris Handler; grandchildren Austin (Ashlynn) Handler, great-grandchild Samuel; Kristen (Clarence) Battle, great-grandchildren Maddox, Kamden, Rowen, Clarence Jr., and Ace; Alexis Stevinson, Kaleb Stevinson, and Vivian Handler.
Michael (Robin) Handler; grandchild Alex Handler, great-grandchild Colten.
David (Jennifer) Handler; grandchildren Callie (Cody) Soto, great-grandchild Wesley; Joel (Madison) Handler; David Handler Jr.; and Kaleb Handler.
Susie’s legacy lives on through the many generations of family she loved so fiercely. Her kindness, resilience, and dedication to those she loved will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Haley Brown and Norma Rogers with Brightmoor Hospice for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Susie during her final days. Your love and dedication will never be forgotten.
