Derry Wayne Tharpe, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully entered eternal rest on August 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of his devoted family.
Born on July 11, 1958, to the late Rev. Aguster Tharpe and Mary Thorpe, Derry was a proud native of Bibb County, Georgia. He received his education through the Bibb County School System and graduated from Central High School, where he was known for his intelligence, responsibility, and unwavering dedication.
Derry exemplified the values of hard work and service throughout his life. He built a meaningful career with the Macon Water Authority and Dismas Charities, where he was respected for his work ethic and integrity. Upon retirement, he continued to serve as a steady and strong presence in the lives of those around him, always putting his family first and ensuring their needs were met. As a father, he instilled in his children the same values he lived by dedication, resilience, and responsibility.
Outside of work, Derry found joy in the simple and meaningful moments of life. He cherished time spent socializing with family and friends, especially during football season, cheering on his favorite teams—the Georgia Bulldogs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Music was also close to his heart; he loved listening to and recording music, singing, and dancing with his beautiful wife, Patricia. Their love was a shining example of partnership and joy. His grandchildren, Mariah and Maya, were his pride and joy, and their bond was filled with laughter, love, and lasting memories.
Derry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Vickie Thorpe. He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, carried on by his loving and devoted wife, Patricia Thorpe; his children, Derry Wayne Thorpe Jr. and Tomesha Denee' Thorpe; and his cherished grandchildren, Mariah Janelle Chatman and Maya Jenee' Chatman.
He is also survived by his brothers, Charles Thorpe (Glenda) and Augustus Thorpe (Tara); his nephew Adarrius Thorpe, his niece Aurriana Thorpe, and a host of other beloved relatives and friends who will miss his warmth, laughter, and steady presence.
Derry Wayne Tharpe, Sr. lived a life of purpose and love. His legacy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
