The Reflections of Life
On February 16th, 2025, Carla Michelle Fryer Hopkins answered the Master's call, leaving her earthly existence to embrace her Heavenly home.
Born on November 21, 1968, in Macon, Georgia, Carla was the cherished daughter of the late Mr. James Wallace Fryer and the late Mrs. Janice Y. Frye Clay. She received her education within the Bibb County Public School System. She attended Fort Hawkins Elementary School and graduated from Northeast High School in 1988. Driven by her passion for children, Carla further pursued her education in Childcare and Early Childhood Education at Central Georgia Technical College. She dedicated many years to G.W. Carver Head Start as a teacher's assistant and bus monitor. Carla also worked for 14 years as a Community Leader Coach at the United Cerebral Palsy of Georgia (UPC) until her retirement.
Raised by a mother who upheld the scripture from Proverbs 22:6 - "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it". Carla was nurtured in the church. She united with the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, where she participated in the Youth Choir, Junior Usher Board, and Youth Department. In her early adult years, Carla served in ministry by becoming a church van driver. Later, Carla joined New Faith Christian Church under the leadership of Pastor Jarvis Adside, Sr. to which she held a deep affection for her pastor and church family.
Mrs. Hopkins was preceded in death by her parents, James W. Fryer, Mrs. Janice Y. F. Clay, and her stepfather, Mr. Charles E. Clay, as well as her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred G. Finney.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her devoted husband, Mr. Derrick Hopkins; her two beloved children, Mr. Jeremy Antwon Fryer Jones and Ms. Makeeva W. Pennyman Johnny Young); and her two dear adopted children, Joniyah Bennett and Victor Allen.
She is also lovingly remembered by her five stepchildren: Ms. Daysha Hopkins, Mr. Devin Hopkins, Ms. Gabrielle Barry, Mr. Christopher D. Hopkins, and Mr. Christopher M. Hopkins. Her memory lives on through her supportive brother, Elder Charles Frye; her uncle, Mr. Michael Finney (Trellis); and her aunt, First Lady Brenda Carner (Pastor J.W.).
Additionally, she is survived by her mother-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Francis; her brothers-in-law, Mr. Eugene Francis and Mr. Nicanor Hopkins; and her god-sister, Ms. Angela Harris. She will be dearly missed by her cherished nieces and nephews, Bryson and McKenzie Frye, Allana Harris, and Autumn Allen, as well as a host of loving relatives and friends.
