Bobby Hurst

Mr. Bobby Hurst, age 77, of Macon County, Georgia, peacefully answered the Master's call and was called from labor to reward on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, after courageously battling numerous health challenges. Born to the late Lorine Hurst Baker and Augustus Poole of Sandersville, Georgia, Bobby lived a life marked by resilience, perseverance, and unwavering strength. He touched the lives of countless family members, friends, and acquaintances with his warm spirit, enduring faith, and genuine love for those around him. His legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bobby received his education through the Bibb County Public School System, where he proudly graduated with the Ballard-Hudson High School Class of 1967. During his school years, he was an accomplished drum major for the renowned Ballard-Hudson Tigers, a role that reflected his confidence, leadership, and pride in his school. Bobby often spoke fondly of his classmates and cherished the lifelong friendships formed during those memorable years. His love for music, school spirit, and community remained with him throughout his life.

At an early age, Bobby accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. As his spiritual journey continued, he later united with Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend David L. Stanley, Sr., where he faithfully nurtured his relationship with God. His faith carried him through life's many triumphs and challenges, serving as a source of comfort and strength. Those who knew Bobby admired his quiet yet steadfast belief in God's grace and his willingness to encourage others through his testimony.

On July 8, 1969, Bobby answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the United States Army. Following his initial training, he was deployed to the Vietnam War, where he was trained to serve as both a co-pilot and door gunner aboard military helicopters. Approximately seven months into his deployment, the helicopter to which he was assigned was struck, resulting in devastating injuries. He was immediately transported to Japan, where he underwent multiple reconstructive surgeries in an effort to repair the severe facial injuries he sustained while serving his country. Bobby was honorably discharged on December 2, 1970. Although he later gained employment with the United States Postal Service and Robins Air Force Base, the lasting effects of his wartime injuries prevented him from continuing those careers. Despite the hardships he endured, Bobby remained remarkably resilient, carrying himself with dignity and courage throughout his life. His service and sacrifice stand as a lasting testament to his bravery and love for his country.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his two beloved sons, Mandrell Hurst and Dondray Hurst, and his sister, Margaret Hurst Topping. Left to cherish his precious memories are his devoted wife of 26 years, Angela M. Hurst of Macon, Georgia; his loving daughter, Keisha Clarke of Macon, Georgia; two cherished granddaughters, Destinee Hurst of Fairburn, Georgia, and Astin Chatman of Sharpsburg, Georgia; one great-grandson, Nickulas Lattimore of Sharpsburg, Georgia; four beloved bonus children, Chizonta Kithers Rozier (Quintorious), Lei Anelsea Kitchens, Gre'Quilla Kitchens, and Greg Marrio Kitchens, all of Macon, Georgia; ten bonus grandchildren; and four bonus great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved as his own. He also leaves one brother-in-law, James Maxwell (Lonnicia) of San Antonio, Texas; three aunts, Margaret Hurst of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Gloria Hike of Costa Mesa, California, and Janice Bryant (Robert) of Lizella, Georgia; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory. Though Bobby's earthly journey has ended, his legacy of courage, faith, love, and perseverance will continue to inspire generations to come.
