Alvin Louis Powers, Sr., affectionately known as "Dude," passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, in Macon, Georgia. He was born on December 26, 1942, in Eastman, Georgia, to the late Alberta Marshall Powers and Henry Moses Powers. Alvin was the second of 11 children, a position that helped shape his strong sense of family and responsibility.
His spiritual foundation began at Mt. Annis Baptist Church, where he developed a deep and abiding faith that guided him throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delphia Ann Spivey-Powers, whom he married in 1975 and shared 38 wonderful years with until her passing in 2013, as well as his siblings: Henrietta Howell, Annie Pearl Floyd, Mattie Lambert, James Edwards, Herman Pennoman, Huberta Powers, Randy Powers, Sherman Powers, and Earnest Powers.
Alvin attended Peabody High School, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with hard work and determination.
He is survived by his siblings, Ronnie Powers of Junction City, KS, Mollie Jones of Eastman, GA (Maxie), and Henry Powers of Eastman, GA (Nettie). He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, Anthony Spivey, Sr. (Angela), April Powers, Alvin Powers, Jr. (Christina), and Alicia Powers-Jackson (Talib); a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.
Alvin proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Sergeant (E-4), with duty stations that included Okinawa, Japan, and multiple bases in Maine, including Loring Air Force Base and Dow Air Force Base. After his military service, he pursued a successful career as a Master Electrician, earning his Electrical License from Macon Technical College. Alvin was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #1316, where he was highly regarded for his skill and dedication to his craft. He retired from a long and distinguished career with Georgia Kraft, Macon Kraft, Riverwood International, and Graphic Packaging, all of which were part of the same company as it evolved over the years.
A man of many talents, Alvin was skilled in auto mechanics and carpentry. He could often be found working with his hands, whether repairing cars or crafting projects with precision and care. He was also a pillar of wisdom and guidance for his family, always willing to lend his expertise or a helping hand.
A devout man of faith, Alvin was a faithful member of Beulahland Bible Church in Macon, GA, until his health began to fail. He was actively involved in the church’s Brotherhood Ministry and shared his gift of music as a member of the Mass Choir and the Male Choir.
Alvin’s legacy of love, hard work, and service to others will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Rest in peace, Alvin, for you have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.
