Agnes "Cookie" Clayton was born on March 14, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Lincoln and Noreen Clayton. She was raised in Macon, Georgia, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. A devoted member of Union Baptist Church in Macon, Cookie shared her love for music by lending her voice to the church and community choirs.
Cookies professional life included dedicated service as a Switchboard Operator for the Macon Telegraph and as a Mail Clerk at Wesleyan College. She was known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to those she loved. She enjoyed knitting, baking, and, most of all, spending quality time with her family and friends. Her legacy is carried on by those who knew her best and loved her most.
She is survived by her sister Diann "Hot Tea" Greene, and preceded by her four other siblings: Tommy Clayton, Samuel "Bobo" Clayton, Pearl Rhodes, and Daryl Wayne Clayton. She was the mother of Luree' McCorkle, Crystal McCorkle-Little, LaTanya Card, Christopher (Mary) McCorkle, Kela McCorkle, and the late Yvonne Ingram-Ephraim.
Cookie was the proud grandmother of Javante (Victoria) Hawkins, DeAnna Little, Diante (Shatia) Hawkins, Jasmine Little, lan Washington, Takela Little, Isaiah Hawkins, Camilia LeBron, Jaylan Card, Le Micheal Ephraim, and Joshua Card. She was also blessed with eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones who will continue to honor her memory.
